On Friday (December 7th), we previewed Marcelo Krasilcic's photography book 1990s at Lords South Beach Hotel in Miami. It is due out from OSMOS in February. As the title suggests, these photos are all from the 1990s, and they look it. Locations include New York, Rio, London, Los Angeles, Havana, Paris, Sau Paulo, Berlin, Munich... The blissed-out mood of the two-volume (one landscape, one portrait) collection is timeless, though, and even locationless, since most of the action happens in bedrooms. The general vibe of these birthday parties, slumber parties, and no-doubt drug-addled no-reason parties could be from a 1970s hippie commune or a present-day post-rave hangout. Krasilicic's subjects sometimes burst off the page, almost literally (at least one is photographed during orgasm).
At the party, selections were projected onto a floating ball over the pool, and partygoers mused over viewing other parties within this one, and at early portraits of Maurizio Cattelan, Chloe Sevigny and the cover image of Every Thing But the Girl's 1996 release, Walking Wounded.
