The first song from Adele’s new album, 25, is here, and it comes with a Xavier Dolan-directed video. “Hello” debuted on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio this morning, and is a ballad of loss and acceptance. Forgiveness, or at least self-forgiveness, is a new element to Adele’s typical heartbreak hits. In a letter on her Twitter, she made it clear that this is a “make-up record.”

The accompanying video keeps it simple with a Sepia lens. Images of the singer are spliced in with solo scenes featuring Tristan Wilds of 90210. It’s hard to say if he is meant to be the one to whom Adele croons, but the juxtaposition creates something undoubtedly intimate. That closeness is only contrasted by the video’s grand moments in the Montreal countryside captured, for the first time in a music video, on IMAX cameras.
