Is Lanvin's Maestro Heading to Dior?

Would any other major designers care to drop a bomb on the fashion industry this month? Following last week’s news that Raf Simons was departing Dior, today, WWD reported that Alber Elbaz is leaving Lanvin. He helmed the storied French house for 14 years.

The obvious conclusion here is that Elbaz is heading to Dior. After all, he was a frontrunner for the creative director gig when John Galliano was dismissed from the house in 2011. The only problem with this hypothesis is that Albez recently gave a speech at Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars bemoaning fashion’s dizzying pace. And seeing as he’d be adding couture to his docket, he’d arguably have to work more swiftly at Dior than he does at Lanvin. However, his feminine aesthetic and refined approach to sensuality would no doubt appeal to the classic Dior client.

But enough about Dior. Who is going to replace Elbaz at Lanvin? Jonathan Anderson? Former Margiela designer Matthieu Blazy? Some fabulous underdog we’ve never heard of? At this point, only one thing’s for sure: F/W ’16 is going to be one hell of a season.
