ARIANA GRANDE AT HER MOST CONFIDENT YET IN NEW VIDEO

Ariana Grande’ s petite stature and penchant for ponytails have been frequently used against her. She’ s too young for her sexed-up songs is how most of the critiques against the 22-year-old boiled down. Selena Gomez, 23, is another sufferer of this casual agism that strips performerswho have to sell their image as much as their artof their agency. Both singers refuse to be victims.

On her latest track, Grande makes it clear that she is a woman (as in, not a girl), and a dangerous one at that. Nothing to prove and/I'm bulletproof and/Know what I'm doing, she sings on Dangerous Woman. The accompanying music video, released today, sees the star at her most stripped down yet, rolling around a couch in nothing but her lingerie. Noticeably, her hair is downa minor detail to any casual observer, but a big confident step for an artist who’ s openly expressed her insecurities over the matter. In a post from early 2014, Grande explained how years of bleach and dye for her character on Nickelodeon’ s Sam & Cat left her hair broken and destroyed.

It’ s a new era for Ariana Grande, one marked by a seemingly unbreakable self-assurance.
