Demna Gvasalia's Fall 2017 collection for Balenciaga's centennial show was, appropriately, an amalgamation of decades. For starters, the show's jewelry followed style cues of the '80s with mismatched and borderline gaudy earrings with the occasional brooch and bracelet. Standout pieces included asymmetric oversized winter jackets, a purse made from a car rear-view mirror, and a refurbished car mat skirt—the latter two feeling decidedly futuristic. Gvasalia closed the show with 9 couture dresses, which had historic, '50s-era Balenciaga silhouettes reimagined for modernity—classic fabrics paired with clashing Easter-hued skin-tight boots (seen last season) and thin '90s sunglasses.
