By now, everyone should be familiar with the Hadid name. Sisters Gigi and Bella have earned a spot at the center of the fashion nexus, not by nepotism (though their father, Mohamed Hadid, is a successful real estate tycoon), but by proving their worth and dedication as models. While much has been written about the siblings, one subject that has remained unclear is their religious beliefs—until now, thanks to a new interview with Bella.

The supermodel opened up to Porter magazine for their latest issue: “My dad was a refugee when he first came to America, so it’s actually very close to home for my sister [Gigi] and brother [Anwar] and me. [My dad] was always religious, and he always prayed with us. I am proud to be a Muslim.”

In today's Trump-driven climate of misinformation and fear-mongering surrounding the refugee crisis and the Muslim community in America, it's a bold, commendable move for the younger Hadid sister. Then again, it's this kind of boldness that has, undoubtedly, gotten Bella to where she is now—at the front lines of a new generation of models who stand for change.
