A bevy of major musicians, actors, and comedians are helping Planned Parenthood by contributing to a 7-inch record series aimed to raise awareness for the organization, facing major threats under Trump's administration. Björk, St. Vincent, Foo Fighters, Bon Iver, Mary J. Blige, Sleater-Kinney, John Legend, Estelle, and Mitski are just some of the artists participating in the project. Each track will be released digitally before being released on a limited-edition box set of 7-inch vinyl, appropriately titled 7-inches for Planned Parenthood (hold the jokes).

The project is a welcome effort to aid an organization that helps people in innumerable ways, many of which go beyond abortions and childcare preparation.

“Lawmakers with extreme views are working hard to shut down Planned Parenthood. If they succeed, millions of Americans will lose access to basic health services, including STD testing and treatment, birth control, and life-saving cancer screenings,” the project’s Facebook page explains. “7-inches for Planned Parenthood is a response to this threat. This curated series of 7-inch vinyl records is being made by a group of people who believe that access to health care is a public good that should be fiercely protected. Do we know there’s a joke in the name? We do. We hope the title evokes the rich history of 7-inch vinyl records as a medium for protest music and resistance.”

Comedians Margaret Cho, Jenny Slate, and Janeane Garofalo contributed spoken-word recordings to the project, while actors Kristen Stewart and Zach Galifianakis have taken care of some visual elements to accompany some tracks. The V106 cover star directed a new video featuring Chvrches music, and for the project’s first offering, Galifianakis crashes Legend and St. Vincent's jam session and turns a gorgeous piano cover of “Lovin’ You" into a hilarious cacophony.
