In 2012, Lady Gaga and her mom, Cynthia Germanotta, launched the Born This Way Foundation, dubbed so in reference to the singer’ s personal expression anthem of the same name. That track’ s message was clear in it’ s chorus—“I'm beautiful in my way/'Cause God makes no mistakes/I'm on the right track, baby/I was born this way”—and is innately intertwined in the foundation’ s mission statement:
Born This Way Foundation is committed to supporting the wellness of young people and empowering them to create a kinder and braver world. We achieve this by shining a light on real people, quality research, and authentic partnerships.
Today BTWF boats 300,000 online subscribers, partnerships with 50 non-profit organizations, and 325 million media impressions for their Born Brave Bus Tour. The latter is an initiative that seeks to connect like-minded youth, create a network of support amongst peers, and to spread the word that mental health is treatable. A focus on three R’ s drives their mission: Real Stories, Research, and Relationships.
This year, it also hosted the Emotion Revoltuion Summit with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. The event saw workshops and exhibits centered creating a thriving environment for students at school. An Emotion Revolution Survey asked students about the current social atmospheres at school, and how they hoped to see it change.
