Few televised performances hold a candle to that of Britney Spears' 2001 MTV Video Music Award show, during which she trotted around on stage in a barely-there jungle ensemble with a snake wrapped around her body as she sang her hit song "I'm A Slave 4 U." It was a new millennium and pop music was full of promise. Spears was at her finest—maybe even the pinnacle of her career in the spotlight, relatively new at that point. Today, in what may have been the smartest and most promising move of her Glory campaign, Spears posted a teaser video for her upcoming VMA performance, referencing the iconic 2001 show. In the clip, a white python slithers through a dressing room filled with Britney costumes and props.

"Make Me (Ooh)," the first single released from the singer's forthcoming album, has been heralded as a veritable summer jam, but its music video and two follow-up tracks have not been as well received. If anything gives us hope, though, it's the promise of a return to aughts-era Britney. We won't find out for sure until next week—the album drops August 26, and she takes the stage on August 28—but in the meantime, you can satisfy your teenage self and revisit her iconic 2001 performance below.
