The fashion industry has always been political to an extent, but never have designers and fashion houses been so outwardly political until the election of Trump. Some of fashion’s biggest players are debating over whether it’s right to dress Melania Trump, and Balenciaga even took to the runway to showcase pieces inspired by Bernie Sanders, the world’s preferred alternative to Trump. Now, the Council of Fashion Designers of America is taking an official stand in support of Planned Parenthood during New York Fashion Week.

The organization has announced that they will give out pink “Fashion Stands with Planned Parenthood” buttons to designers, models, PR agents, press, and guests of NYFW. The movement aims to get these pins shown off in the audience and on the runway to raise awareness about the importance of the organization, which is in danger of being defunded under Trump’s administration. The initiative was spearheaded by CFDA member Tracy Reese and will be supported by designers including Proenza Schouler, Diane von Furstenberg, Prabal Gurung, Tory Burch, Zac Posen, and Carolina Herrera.

“We are truly thrilled by the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s show of support for Planned Parenthood at New York Fashion Week,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, in a statement. “Planned Parenthood has stood defiantly in the face of opposition for a century, and we’re not backing down now. The American people overwhelmingly support our organization and strongly oppose ‘defunding’ care at our health centers.”

While the Council will not give funds directly to Planned Parenthood, the buttons will include a card that encourages wearers to donate and get involved in supporting the organization, whether it be through protesting or social media. If you would like to get involved yourself, feel free to donate to the Action Fund and support the cause in any way you can.
