Rei Kawakubo is no stranger to steering clear of conventional fashion trends. The Japanese designer behind Commes des Garçons, who will be honored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute this spring, debuted a collection of futuristic dresses that reimagine shapes and the traditional female figure. The collection was made from a combination of garment fabrics and industrial material such as paper, cotton wadding, and rug padding. Named "The Future of the Silhouette," the collection channels a throwback to Kawakubo's 1997 collection, "Body Meets Dress, Dress Meets Body." The show also featured exclusive new collaborative sneakers with Nike based on the brand's Lunar FlyKnit sneakers, sure to be a favorite among both Nike and Comme fanatics.
