It's only been six months since BANKS released her sophomore album, The Altar, which saw the singer build upon the dark, sonic world she created with 2014's Goddess, but with a more vulnerable edge. Today, BANKS surprised fans with a new track that continues this motif, while exploring the ideas of social anxiety and love (it was, aptly, written with Jack Antonoff for the final season of GIRLS).

Stripped down and raw, "Crowded Places" listens as an open-hearted confessional, playing to the singer's strength in creating intimacy in sonic spaces—even more so than anything she's released prior. In fact, a majority of the song's lyrics are monologues directed at the object of the singer's love, paired with a minimal beat and echoes of the song's chorus: "Cause I've been scared of crowded places/ Come with me, I'll take you home."

All in all, the track could have easily belonged on The Altar, but stands just as tall on its own—the next stop on a personal journey that BANKS has been sharing with the world. Listen to "Crowded Places" below.
