Karl Lagerfield Proves It's Possible To Walk On Water

To celebrate 90 stunning years as one of the biggest houses in fashion, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld set a new standard for the art of couture with the Legends & Fairytales show, the first-ever fashion show to be hosted at the historic Trevi Fountain in Rome. A transparent runway was suspended over the Italian fixture as models floated down the runway, giving the illusion they were actually walking on water in a never before seen spectacle.

"To me, the fact of walking on water on the Fountain of Trevi is a fairytale," says Lagerfeld of his unique concept. "It's something that will never happen again, it never happened in the past. Ever since the Fellini movie with Madame Ekberg in the water, nothing had happened in or under the fountain. I think it's a unique occasion. It's like a fairytale. It's unreal. It's like a dream."

Inspired by Danish illustrator Kay Nielsen, Lagerfeld transformed northern fairytales into ethereal couture pieces for the fall 2016 collection. Mink, embellished chiffon, feathers and hand-painted designs were the focus as feminine curls and glitter makeup added a slight princess feel to the collection. Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid made appearances, with the former opening the show in a gorgeous ensemble reminiscent of Cinderella.

Lagerfeld certainly took Fendi over the edge for the label's 90-year celebration, leaving the fashion industry to wonder what could possibly come next in the world of both Fendi and couture.
