Florence + The Machine Release New Music for Final Fantasy XV

In case you needed any further convincing that nineties nostalgia is in full swing

In case you needed any further convincing that nineties nostalgia is in full swing

If you grew up in the nineties as an RPG fan—that's short for Role Playing Game, in case you were busy getting laid in high school—chances are, the nostalgia for your youth contains a yearning for the Final Fantasy franchise. With unparalleled world-building, groundbreaking visuals, and genuinely complex characters and storylines, it brought gaming to a new level. While the games seem to have lost some steam over the years (since many of us millennials were forced to "grow up"), the series is still going—and its next iteration, Final Fantasy XV, just got some much-needed love in the form of a mini-soundtrack by none other than Florence + The Machine.

Though some might find it surprising that the critically and commercially successful indie rock band, fronted by lead singer and enchantress Florence Welch, would choose to attach their name to a video game series, all it takes is one listen for it all to make sense. Welch's soaring voice coupled with sweeping instrumentals (which include a fucking harp) make the perfect otherworldly soundtrack, made all the more magnificent by an elegant cover of "Stand By Me." The three songs are nothing short of beautiful, all equally deserving of spots on any of the band's previously-released albums. We can't speak to the quality of the forthcoming game, but if these tracks are any indication, perhaps it will be worth revisiting our childhood.
