To the surprise of few, if any, the Ryan Gosling- and Emma Stone-starring film, La La Land, leads the pack with the most Golden Globe nominations for the 2017 award show—seven total, including Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Director, and Best Picture. In a close second and third, Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight nabbed six nominations and Manchester by the Sea five.

Actress-cum-singer Hailee Steinfeld returns to the film award circuit—after her role in 2010’s True Grit—with the independent film Edge of Seventeen. As the lead, she’s nominated for Best Actress in a comedy. Designer, and director, Tom Ford similarly returns to the field with his latest Nocturnal Animals, vying for Best Director and Best Screenplay.

Commendably, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Veep is nominated for the fifth year in a row. And, as is tradition, Meryl Streep was nominated for whatever movie it was she did this year. Oh, yes, Florence Foster Jenkins.
