It's as funny and as bleak as you might think.

Finally putting to video what everyone has had on their minds, the masterminds behind Funny or Die have edited together footage of Hulu's new dystopian scripted series The Handmaid's Tale, based on Margaret Atwood's best-selling book of the same name. The series imagines Gilead, a post-apocalyptic America where the women have become the property of men, not even worthy of having their own names and forced to police each other's behavior. With one of the highlights of the campaign trail was the now-president gloating about sexually harassing women, the juxtaposition is as apt as it is off-putting.

The video does have funny moments, too, but they come in harrowing contexts: at one point, the protagonist, Ofred, is offered to Trump to fulfill her duties as a handmaid, and asks Melania what will happen to her. The next edit, footage from Melania's interview with Anderson Cooper, singles out a description: "dirty and bad stuff." Naturally, the scene shifts to Ofred awkwardly looking at Trump as he repeats that "it is so big, it's so enormous, it's enormous, I wish you were softer, I wish you were nicer." Another chilling quote from Melania: "He can do whatever he likes."

Watch the video below and decide for yourself if America's on its way to becoming Gilead.
