Even with all the thick moisturizers in the world, it’s very difficult to stop the seasonal falling temperatures from wreaking havoc on your skin. Over-moisturizing can lead to pesky breakouts, but wearing your matte-finish serum from summer can make your whole face feel chapped. Your summer matte lipsticks won’t be helpful, either. The initial instinct is to revamp your beauty routine completely, and that’s not necessary. V rounded up a few products—and a few product types—that aid and prevent temperamental skin, whatever the season.

Face Mists:

Typically a summer staple because of the cooling factor, face mists are a great way to supplement moisture. Something infused with a bit of oil, like Caudalie’s Face Elixir, goes on great. Try putting it on under your moisturizer, to make sure it’s readily absorbed. Avène Eau Thermale’s Thermal Spring Water works as a great prepping treatment for a soft, dewy glow under a serum and makes your eye cream super silky.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir from net-a-porter.com for $49

Avène Thermal Spring Water from aveneusa.com for $18.50

Exfoliators:

Difficult to use because of their aggravating properties, exfoliators are best for getting off the sweat and grime of running hot summer errands and appointments. Typically, they’re difficult to master in the winter, so people skip this step altogether. The dead skin that they slough off, though, will prevent your products from penetrating and moisturizing fully: imagine adding a fresh coat of paint to a wall whose most recent coat is peeling off in sheets. Products like That’s Incredi-Peel! Resurfacing pads from Bliss, or Kate Somerville’s cult favorite ExfoliKate both combine physical and chemical exfoliation for effective results and minimal irritation.

Bliss That's Incredi-‘Peel’! Spa-Strength Glycolic Resurfacing Pads from ulta.com for $36.75

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment from bergdorfgoodman.com for $85

Sunscreens:

SPF is not just for the beach. SPF should be used every day, but with the thick cloud cover that comes with the later months of the year, it’s one of the easiest steps to ignore. First of all, it’s another layer of moisture - which you’ll need—and it also prevents aging. Going with a mineral sunscreen is also a good plan of attack. Chemical sunscreens are absorbed into your skin, while mineral sunscreens form a physical barrier between your skin and your arctic surroundings. La Roche-Posay's Anthelios Mineral Sunscreen goes on super lightly, and Supergoop!'s Skin Soothing Mineral Sunscreen works wonders on redness and irritation.

Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid With Zinc Oxide from laroche-posay.us for $33.50

Supergoop! Skin Soothing Mineral Sunscreen with Olive Polyphenols Broad Spectrum SPF 40 from nordstrom.com for $28
