V104 cover star Grimes and Janelle Monaé have released the video for "Venus Fly," their collaboration on Grimes's 2015 album Art Angels, exclusively on everyone's favorite streaming service Tidal. The sprawling seven-minute DIY epic sees the duo in their natural element as kick-ass warriors, decked out in the most extravagant face jewelry and anime-inspired garb. Grimes also has her very own goo moment, a la Lady Gaga during the Born This Way era. The video was edited and directed by Grimes herself.

The clip marks the first time that the famously DIY artist has teamed up with a major music entity like Tidal to release a video. While some might say this contradicts her independent nature, it signals a reality that even the most creative and self-sustaining artists must rely on big labels and streaming services in order to truly execute their vision for ambition projects. Grimes even addressed the criticism on Twitter:

The artist took to Instagram to explain some of the inspirations behind the video:"Sometimes it feels futile to be making art in this cruel and extreme political climate, but some of the brightest moments of the last few months for me and for a lot of you, i suspect, have come from seeing @janellemonae 's amazing and positive vision of the future, especially when we are being introduced to so many possible dystopian futures. "

UPDATE: The video is no longer exclusive to Tidal. Watch it in full below.
