Dear diary: TV Land has announced a reeboot of the 1988 cult classic, one that will anthologize and reimagine the high school murder with an updated (and more diverse) cast.

The film follows Veronica, originally played by Winona Ryder, as she joins the most popular group at school, "The Heathers." Melanie Field will play the clique leader, Heather Chandler; Jasmine Matthews will portray a black, lesbian version of Heather McNamara, and Brendan Scannell will take on the role of Heather Duke (originally played by Shannen Doherty) as a gender-queer male who goes by Heath. Winona Ryder’s role as the film’s heroine, Veronica, will be taken up by Grace Victoria Cox, and James Scully will replace Christian Slater as her boyfriend, J.D.

The reboot has been ordered to pilot, but no release date has been announced yet.
