AFTER MONTHS OF SPECULATION, RUMORS ABOUT THE DESIGNER'S FUTURE AT THE BRAND ARE FINALLY PUT TO REST

This morning, Saint Laurent and its parent company, Kering, announced the departure of the brand’ s creative and image director, Hedi Slimane. Rumors about the leave have persisted for months, and his Saint Laurent at the Palladium show certainly felt like a (triumphant) finale, but the news comes as a surprise.

Slimane was responsible for breaking the French fashion house out of its stagnancy, bringing in over one billion dollars in revenue last year, successfully tapping into a new market for the storied brand, and reviving the house's couture line. His rebranding of the ready-to-wear line (dropping the Y in the iconic YSL), obsession with Los Angeles and music culture, and insistence on creating luxury that feels as high end as it does underground made for a tenure that all but defined this era of mens and womenswear.

It's unclear where Slimane is headed next (rumors about Chanel and Saint Laurent are imminent), but one thing is certain: the designer will be making waves wherever he goes.
