IGGY AZALEA ADDS ANOTHER HIT TO HER DISCOGRAPHY

Iggy Azalea might be the most controversial rapper of the decade.  The list of artists she has had beef with grows larger by the day—some of whom have even gone so far as to say that she's not a “real” rapper (looking at you, Erykah Badu). Accusations of cultural appropriation are often levied against her, making for a deluge of think pieces that amongst other things compare her to Rachel Dolezal, who masqueraded as African-American for years when she was in fact not.

What cannot be contested is that Iggy Azalea is a very successful mainstream musician; she already has four platinum U.S. tracks in just two years. Today, with the release of her latest, “Team,” she might just have five.

The song, taken off her forthcoming album Digital Distortion, sees a writing credit from Bebe Rexha, an artist responsible for hits like “Monster” by Rihanna, “Hey Mama” by David Guetta, and “All Hands on Deck” by Tinashe. The lyrics serve as a self-empowering anthem with the mantra “Baby I got me/And that’s all I need.”

The accompanying video, also dropped today, is dubbed a “dance video,” an alternative to the traditional music video, popularized by Justin Bieber for his track “Sorry.” A crew of 11 denim-decked dancers, of varying dance backgrounds, breaks it down while running around a massive loft space. Azalea doesn’t make an appearance, but it’s impressive all the same. It seems the return of real music video choreography is upon us. Hallelujah!
