Jane Birkin—the woman immortalized by Hermes with its ultra-exclusive Birkin bag—has released a new album of songs written by her musical partner and lover Serge Gainsbourg.

The album, titled Birkin/Gainsbourg: Le Symphonique, features symphony orchestrated versions of Gainsbourg's songs and compositions. "I was brought to this new project, I was in Quebec, and I told the animator Monique Giroux that Serge was often inspired by classical music and she asked me why I would not go back not his songs with a classical orchestra, " said Birkin in an interview with L'Express. "Serge's education was classical. Great music is what he loved most, with painting and poetry. He did not think he was a great artist, but he knew was the best songwriter that yes! so I think it would be happy because he loved her so much symphonic music. he was very, very moved."

The project was put together by Japanese composer Nobuyuki Nakajima, recorded by Gainsbourg producer Philippe Lerichomme, and performed by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Birkin and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra are set to go on tour this year.
