Among the most egregious offenses committed by Donald Trump before he has even taken office is how he's talked about Muslim Americans. In discussing how to "fight terrorism," the President-Elect has said he was in favor of a ban on Muslim people entering the country, and even proposed a national registry of those already living in the United States.

In response, Katy Perry—who was an avid Hillary Clinton supporter and has become a powerful voice against the Trump administration—has executive produced a PSA warning about the dangers of the proposed registry by comparing it to the Japanese internment camps created during World War II.

The video, above, tells the story of 89-year-old Haru, an American woman of Japanese descent who grew up in Riverside, California and was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans placed in an interment camp during the war. A twist in the telling of her story draws a striking parallel between the past and the present, leaving the viewing to wonder whether or not history is, in fact, repeating itself.

The PSA ends with a simple, yet effective, message: #dontnormalizehate.
