Last night, without warning, Kendall Jenner deleted her Instagram. In a week where nothing seems dependable—Donald Trump won the presidency; Leonard Cohen passed away; and Bella and The Weeknd broke up—this is just the icing on top of the cake. Where will millions of millennials turn to now for a (debatably) healthy dose of distraction? How will we ever be able to keep up with the Kardashians?

Let us not forget that Jenner has built an entire career by leveraging her social media clout—her millions of followers each representing a dollar sign in endorsement deals. Before being surpassed by Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, the model had the most liked photo on Instagram. You definitely saw it. Given her influence, it seems unfathomable that Jenner’s hiatus will last very long, though Justin Bieber hasn’t returned to the platform since getting rid of it back in August. The singer deleted his account after fans attacked his then love interest Sofia Richie, but it’s unclear why Jenner has deleted hers.

The surprise move does come shortly after Jenner’s sister Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint in her apartment in Paris. Social media, amongst other things, was heavily cited as the reason for the attack. Since then, Kim has been entirely absent from social platforms.

Perhaps not so coincidentally, last night saw the closest (largest) super moon since 1948. Could the two be related? Is the end nigh for popular culture as we know it? It certainly seems so.
