Following accusations that she wore blackface in the promo images for her new makeup line, KKW Beauty, Kim Kardashian West wants you to know that she was just "really tan."

"I would obviously never want to offend anyone," the reality star and media mogul told the New York Times yesterday. "I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off. But I showed the image to many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it."

The original image (above) was met with outrage on social media, with many users claiming that Kardashian West was appropriating black culture in order to sell her beauty products. Not long after, she followed up the image with an altered version with a brighter tone and peach backdrop (below).

"Of course, I have the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did," she continued to tell the Times. "But we made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos. We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away. Definitely I have learned from it."

For fans of the Kardashians or those simply looking forward to the KKW Beauty drop on June 21, fear not; if anyone knows how to bounce back from a controversy, it's Kim.
