Bradley Cooper will make his directorial debut with A Star Is Born, featuring Lady Gaga and himself, but we’ll have to wait longer than we expected to actually watch it. Warner Bros. has announced that the remake is expected to hit theaters on September 28, 2018, almost two years out from the film’s official announcement.

The latest remake of A Star Is Born has been in development since 2011 under the hem of director Clint Eastwood. Beyoncé was in talks for the leading role of Esther until her pregnancy with Blue Ivy forced her to drop out of negotiations for the time being. She was attached to the role once again after Cooper picked up directorial duties but things simply didn’t work out. It was reported earlier this year that Cooper was eyeing Gaga for the role, and Gaga officially signed on to do the film in August.

This marks Gaga’s debut as a lead in a feature film, and her first major acting venture since her Golden Globe-winning performance in American Horror Story: Hotel. Cooper’s adaptation of the classic musical, about a waning actor or musician falling in love with a fellow actress or musician amidst her rising career, will be the fourth of its kind. Gaga will follow in the footsteps of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand, who have previously played the role of Esther. No doubt, Gaga will do them justice and give absolute commitment and emotion to the iconic character.
