This past Sunday, the Dalai Lama spoke at the 84th Annual U.S. Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis with a special guest: Lady Gaga. While there were no performances to be had by the singer, a question-and-answer session (moderated by journalist Ann Curry) prompted powerful words between Gaga and the Tibetan leader.

The importance of kindness and clemency were discussed, with the Dalai Lama admitting his belief that humans are too materialistic. Lady Gaga went on to say that the key to success in working against the evils in this world is rooted in perspective and unity. With great emotion she explains, "Because the mind of the United States and the body of the United States are not connected we have disharmony. And kindness is the cheapest way to cure that and it has a priceless aftermath."

In addition to this conference, Lady Gaga and the Dalai Lama spoke about emotional and mental health via Facebook Live chat. She relayed questions from viewers, fixating on humanity along with several other topics including one related to the tragedy that took place in Orlando. When asked how to face the iniquities that exist in the world, the Dalai Lama recommends, "Once (a) tragic situation happens, not avoid—(but) look at more deeply, widely. Many positive, happy things are there if you look (from a) wider perspective. If you look real closely, it appears unbearable. But if you look widely (you see) other positive things there."

The leader continued the Q&A by confronting the idea of the future and how the past is an unchangeable entity. The holy leader speculates how the younger generation has the power to create a healthier environment, which in turn, could allow for healthier minds.
