Pop star. Jazz singer. Writer. Director. Actress. Fashion icon. Philanthropist. Lady Gaga has had many monikers in her career, but just when you thought Miss Germanotta couldn’t possibly have any more firsts, she's found another for her resume: magazine editor.

That’s right: for V's first issue of 2016, the American Horror Story: Hotel and music megstar is taking over as guest editor-in-chief––a first in the magazine’s history––and she’s tapped the biggest names in fashion for it, celebrating a creative community in the form of a cultural bible of our times.

In Gaga’s own words, "This issue of V is about all of these people coming together to express a passion for art and fashion, to really 'go there' to make a great statement and to change things...I feel like we all share an appetite for living a life of passion and creativity…it's like we all found our immortality through art and fashion...we share that deep spiritual place. These are people who have kept me and protected me over the years, because they've wanted me to survive…that’s part of the message of this issue: we have to carry each other through the decades and take care of one another and honor each other's work...I am saying thank you to all these people for everything they've given to me...I want to make sure the world knows who they are…it’s a guard of people…I call them my Fashion Guard!”

Of course, the love affair between Gaga and V is a long-standing one. For every metamorphic moment of her career, Mother Monster has had a collaboration to match, from her first stories in V60 by Sebastian Faena and V61 by Mario Testino for The Fame and The Fame Monster in 2009, to her Born This Way covers for V71 in 2011 and her Artpop comeback for V85 in 2013, both by Inez and Vinoodh. She even came together with Carine Roitfeld and Bruce Weber for V’s sister publication, CR Fashion Book, celebrating her jazz collaboration with Tony Bennett earlier this year.

Relive these moments and more with the video above, and be sure to check back for more updates on #VbyGaga in the weeks to come!
