Lady Gaga Will NOT Be Playing Donatella Versace in 'American Crime Story'

A true robbery.

A true robbery.

Back in November, when it was announced that American Crime Story would take on the Versace/Cunanan case for its third season, reports immediately began to circulate that Lady Gaga would portray Donatella Versace in the series. It seemed like a no-brainer, given the pair's platinum blonde resemblance, and status as real-life gal pals—not to mention Gaga's history working with series creator Ryan Murphy on American Horror Story. Unfortunately, today, Murphy has debunked these rumors.

"She’s a friend. But she’s very busy this next year," Murphy told Variety. "She’s doing Super Bowl and then she’s doing A Star Is Born, and I believe that she’s going on tour. And when you’re going to do a show like Versace, it’s a five-month commitment, it’s a very big show, we’re shooting it all over the world. So I just don’t think with her schedule, I knew that it would never had worked."

It's a bit unfair, given that Murphy also told EW that he thought Gaga would be a perfect fit for the role last year, but we are talking about the man who is obsessed with drumming up hype (have you seen all those American Horror Story teasers?). Speaking of, this comes just after the news that AHS will be renewed for two more seasons. As if we didn't have enough horror on television to watch.
