When faced with a world plagued by mounting political tensions and social injustices—many of which are beyond our control—how do we balance our anger and anxiety in our daily lives? How do we reconcile our helplessness and despair with our desire to enjoy ourselves? Is it possible—or, more importantly, is it fair—to continue about our lives and pursuing the things that bring us joy?

In 2017, these are difficult questions that every socially conscious person is faced with at one point or another—even Lana Del Rey. On her way back from Coachella, the singer took to Instagram to share a song and note she wrote while attempting to reconcile having had an enjoyable weekend with the military escalations in North Korea.

"I'm not gonna lie- I had complex feelings about spending the weekend dancing whilst watching tensions w North Korea mount," Del Rey writes. "I find It's a tightrope between being vigilantly observant of everything going on in the world and also having enough space and time to appreciate God's good earth the way it was intended to be appreciated. On my way home I found myself compelled to visit an old favorite place of mine at the rim of the world highway where I took a moment to sit down by the sequoia grove and write a little song. I just wanted to share this in hopes that one individual's hope and prayer for peace might contribute to the possibility of it in the long run. Hope everyone has a nice day, with love from California."

It's a refreshing bout of honesty from an artist, who understands it's her duty to reflect the times—which appears to have been a driving force in writing her forthcoming albumLust for Life. As for the song previewed in the video, it's unclear if it will make it on the new record, but we hope it does. In the meantime, watch the clip below.
