This year's Emmy nominees have just been announced, and while the release is typically met with a collective gasp at the inevitable snubs, this year's list came with another form of surprise: nominations that are unexpectedly on-point.

Praise for Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade is far from fading, as it receives a total of four award nominations. The probing mix of fierce filmwork and breathtaking vocals immediately topped charts after premiering on HBO back in April, with each single gaining momentum in its own right ever since. As well as being nominated for Outstanding Variety Special, Lemonade is up for Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special. The album’s final nomination is Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Nonfiction, Event or Award Special.

Another artist worth noting is, of course, Adele. Her Adele Live in New York City will go up against Lemonade in the Outstanding Directing category. Like Beyoncé’s album, Adele received an equal four nominations, one of which being Outstanding Variety Special. Also receiving four nominations is Master of None, the Aziz Ansari Netflix series, which is pinned for Outstanding Comedy Series. Ansari has been personally selected for directing the show, as well as writing and acting in the final production.

Actors in the lineup include Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Kerry Washington, Kirsten Dunst, Constance Zimmer (we love you, Quinn!), Jeffrey Tambor, and Anthony Anderson, whilst individual show nominations span from The Voice to Fargo and Luther. However, despite today's excitement, we'll be anticipating the results for the next two months, as the awards ceremony won't be held until the Fall (September 18).
