The unthinkable has happened: HAIM has returned. Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim made good on their promise from last week and unveiled their first single in nearly three years, “Right Now,” this morning. The trio also announced that their highly anticipated sophomore album, Something to Tell You, will be released on July 7.

The new track is a return-to-form to their signature brooding rock sound, but with the mystery stepped up just a couple notches. The slow-burning track, produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, starts off with simple drum kicks and guitar licks as their vocals gradually ramp up, eventually building up to an dramatic drumbeat outro that leaves you wanting more. If anything, it sounds like a promise that what’s to come is only more intense and emotional than this.

The video, directed by Paul Taylor Anderson, is refreshingly intimate and somewhat serene, especially for a comeback video. The clip simply takes you inside the studio as HAIM records the song (possibly to prove that music was being made in the first place), incorporating some of the rough recording footage within the final version. As the girls yell at the end, “that’s how you fuckin’ do it!” Watch the video below.
