Now that 2016 breakout artist Maggie Rogers has hit the road on her first tour—more than half of which is already sold out—she’s ready to give fans another track. “On + Off” is her most pop-leaning, radio-friendly track yet, and comes off her forthcoming EP, Now That The Light Is Fading. The song debuted last night as BBC Radio 1’s “Hottest Record in the World.”

Following the track’s premiere, Rogers spoke to radio host MistaJam about the story behind the track: “This was one of the very first songs—I made it right after 'Alaska.' The lyrics, there’s this sort of sexual cliché in the song. There’s a lyric that says you turn me on, but if you listen to the rest of the lyrics, that is actually about emotional stability and being on and off and finding a person that grounds you. I think that’s one of the most important things to me in relationships.”

On her transition from folk music to pop, the singer says, “I’ve spent my whole life making quiet music. I’m really, really excited to be a little loud.”

On February 15, Rogers will perform her breakout track “Alaska” on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show. The EP will be released two days later, February 17. You can find her tour schedule here.
