“Didn’t give you what you want / gave you what you need,” Olivia O’Brien sings of an all too relatable feeling. The singer-songwriter from Napa Valley, California, just may be starting the next generation of cathartic Taylor Swift-esque anthems wrapped in the sweet vocals of Lorde and maturity of Lana.

After a very successful run with artist gnash on their collaborated track, “I Hate U I Love U”, which ranked in the top 10 of the Hot 100 this past month, O'Brien’s cred in the music world has only gotten stronger. The recent Island Records signee's new single “Find What You’re Looking For,” leads O’Brien’s lyrical talent into maturity. The song finds her feeling, once again, at the blame of an unnecessary affair. Her transparency resonates with most of us, while she laments the future, but rises in benevolence, “I hope you find what you’re looking for.”

Her truest test of artistry is in her music, which she writes herself. “When I was younger I thought that every artist wrote their own songs. As I grew up and realized that that wasn’t the case, I was really disappointed…that’s why my main focus…is to be authentic and mean what I say,” she said in an interview with The New Nine. So far, she's passing the test with flying colors.
