Following numerous Instagram teasers, Gomez has finally debuted her new single "Bad Liar." The lighthearted, upbeat song comes as a surprise following the rather intense visuals, shot by Petra Collins, of Selena laying teary eyed wearing an "RISK" bracelet and bandage. Nonetheless, Gomez and songwriting power duo Julia Michaels and Justin Trater delivered a touching tribute to the experience of falling in love. The tune discusses the feelings of an all-consuming fixation on an object of affection and Gomez's inability to hide them.

Interestingly enough, the song is built around the beat of "Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads. Trater told Variety that Michaels and Gomez are "Talking Heads-obsessed." The opportunity presented itself and the three pounced after Talking Heads lead singer and guitarist David Byrne gave the song his stamp of approval. As far as crafting the song itself, he emphasized that "The beat was just very minimal and left plenty of room for the top line to grow. It was like a starting place, then it just felt so good, it became the thing.” Whether or not their is a connection to the use of that specific song and her struggles with mental health, "Bad Liar" is dynamic and truly divergent of anything Gomez's 120 million+ fans have heard before.

Gomez's unrivaled Instagram fame, her innate vocal talents and her powerful, sentimental words of heartache and her personal struggles have shaped her into an unparalleled, one of a kind artist—and there's little doubt that this song will continue her on the same chart-topping trajectory.
