For the last two years, the LVMH Prize has been indicative of some of the fashion industry’s best up-and-coming designers, and this year’s list of finalists doesn’t fall short of expectations. Narrowed from a list of 23 designers, the eight finalists were selected from a panel of legendary industry figureheads, including Karl Lagerfeld and Riccardo Tisci, during an LVMH Prize cocktail event at Paris Fashion Week. Among the finalists are New York-based designer Matthew Williams of Alyx and designer and stylist Brandon Maxwell, close friend and collaborator to V99 guest editor Lady Gaga. Other finalists include Tuomas Merikoski of Aalto, Hiromichi Ochiai of Facetasm, Christelle Kocher of Koché, Vejas Kruszewski of Vejas, Grace Wales Bonner of Wales Bonner, and Glenn Martens of Y/Project. The winner, who will receive a prize of 300,000 euros and a year of mentorship with LVMH, will be announced on June 16th at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.
