Was Megyn Kelly Being Shady in Her Fox News Farewell?

Or is it just wishful thinking?

Or is it just wishful thinking?

Yesterday, following a report from the New York Times, Megyn Kelly announced her official departure from Fox News on her Facebook page. This Friday will be the host’s last day with the network, after which she’ll move to a new position at NBC News.

The Facebook announcement was professional and detailed her future plans while thanking those who have helped her along the way. In all, it’s expected and formulaic, except for one little line at the end: “I remain deeply grateful to Fox News, to Rupert, Lachlan and James Murdoch, and especially to all of the FNC viewers, who have taught me so much about what really matters.”

Read quickly, the line is perfectly innocuous and gracious, but if you read a little deeper, it’s total shade. What exactly have Fox viewers and the Murdochs taught Megyn Kelly so much about what really matters? Clearly, not enough to make her stay.

Later that day, Kelly closed her regularly scheduled segment with a deadpan farewell that was as cold as it was scripted. She mostly read her original statement verbatim and with an enviable poker face. Is it too much to think that this little ambiguous line was her last jab at the network she seems to mostly disagree with? She didn't exactly have a totally pleasant time with the company last year, and she's apparently taken a pay cut for her new role at NBC.

Watch the farewell and read the full statement below.
