A sequel to David Bowie’s famous 1986 movie Labyrinth is now in the works. Fede Alvarez, the filmmaker behind last year’s Don’t Breathe, will direct the project and co-write the script with Jay Basu. Lisa Hensen, daughter of the original movie’s director Jim Hensen, will produce the film.

Labyrinth was one of Bowie’s defining projects during his illustrious career, and one of the first roles for then-emerging actress Jennifer Connelly. The film follows a teenager (Connelly) whose brother has been captured by a goblin king (Bowie) and has to go through a fantastical maze and sci-fi obstacles in order to save him. While the sequel will continue the story of these characters set in the same universe, there will likely be major changes to the plot line, as Bowie’s character will not be represented in the film.

There is no planned release date as of yet, but considering that Alvarez and Basu are currently in the stages of creating The Girl in the Spider's Web, the sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, don't expect to see in on your theater screen for quite a while. No further details involving casting or plot have been revealed just yet.
