If there’s anyone willing to get brashly sexual in her music, push gender norms beyond uncrossed boundaries, and hold absolutely nothing back while doing so, it’s Peaches. The artist has explored the intersections between gender and sexuality for years, always in an bold in-your-face manner. But for her latest video, she has taken a more “quiet and sensual” turn, in her own words.

Today, Peaches released the video for “How You Like My Cut,” the latest single from her proudly provocative album Rub, starring dancer and visual artist Elsa Jocson. For the video, Jocson performs a routine entitled "Macho Dancer," inspired by Philippine male exotic dancing, a type usually only done by men for women’s enjoyments in Manila nightclubs. She takes this style and infuses it with elements from her classical ballet background, creating a piece that pushes and expands gender norms in a more subtle manner than Peaches’ past work.

"I first saw Eisa Jocson perform 'Macho Dancer' as a much longer and more involved piece for a dance festival in Berlin,” Peaches explained in a statement. “I was struck by how androgynous and delicate this gender specific dance is interpreted.”

Peaches also commented on the stark simplicity of the visual. “This time there are no big cartoon pussies or naked bodies, and I do not even appear in one of my own videos for the first time.” The plain background and single spotlight allow focus on Jocson’s intricate and seductive choreography, making for a refreshing addition to Peaches’s portfolio.
