Last night, we went shopping at the Zero + Maria Cornejo store on Bleecker and Mott. Cocktails were served for a pre-gala event celebrating an upcoming Relâche celebration: a black and white party on Thursday November 29th, hosted by Julie Blakeslee, John Spong, RoseLee Goldbern, Wendy Fisher, Amanda and Glenn Fuhrman, Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn and Cindy Sherman.
A benefit for the expertly curated Performa series, the 5th of which will take place in November of next year, the gala, Performa 13, will be a tribute to the original 1924 Relâche organizers, Francis Picabia and Erik Satie–two artists without whom the performance art movement absolutely would not have been the same. Performa organizer RoseLee Goldberg gave a lively speech urging attendees to transport to the days of Dada, when experimental performance was young, while a video installation was projected over ZERO + Maria Cornejo’s striking digital print collection.
