Today, Riccardo Tisci has confirmed his departure from Givenchy, according to Business of Fashion. The Italian designer has held the role of creative director at the French fashion house since 2005.

At the time of his appointment, Givenchy’s CEO Marco Gobbetti described Tisci’s work as having “an elegance that is very modern, very contemporary, and romantic at the same time.” That romantic and modern aesthetic has stayed true ever since, making Givenchy one of the most recognizable luxury brands in the world.

Rumors have swirled in recent weeks that Donatella Versace was looking to poach Tisci for her namesake brand, so this announcement comes at an interesting time. The two designers are certainly fond of each other; Versace recently appeared in a Givenchy campaign for Fall 2015.

It seems only a matter of time until we find out where Tisci will end up, but it’s a safe bet he won’t be taking a demotion.
