Famed writer Glenn O’Brien has passed away. Jerry Saltz, New York Magazine’s art critic and one of O’Brien’s colleagues, confirmed the news this morning with a touching Facebook post. No further details about his death have been confirmed at this time.

O’Brien came to prominence as the “Style Guy” for GQ Magazine, creating a weekly fashion column and spawning it into a published guide that defined men’s lifestyle pieces. But is perhaps most well-known for co-writing Madonna’s Sex book and serving as art director of Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine right after its inception. To simply list his many achievements here would be an injustice to his illustrious and adventurous life. To say he has helped shape New York City culture would be an understatement.

For the most insightful look, read the self-written biography on his website, where he describes his career landmarks in a way that is effortlessly witty and self-depreciating in the most humbling way. He will be truly missed.

More details to come.
