Following the announcement of her new brand ambassadorship with Coach, it should come as no surprise that the singing beauty appeared on last night's 2017 Met Gala red carpet in a custom dress from the American brand. Not even an arm's length away walked the dress's designer, Stuart Vevers. It's hard to say Vevers was Gomez's date for the evening as that honor clearly went to her new beau, The Weeknd. The two shared an opportune kiss for all the cameras.

On his designs (the bag was custom, too), Vevers says, "The starting point for this dress was Selena. We were inspired by the nostalgic glamor of the 1930s but wanted it to feel very ‘today’ and evoke a cool feminine ease that felt modern and personalized.”

Speaking of personalized, the handbag Gomez carried included a custom monogram with "love yourself first," an homage to the tattoo the singer has in Arabic script on her back. “I couldn’t have been more excited to attend the Met Gala this year with the incredibly talented Stuart Vevers,” said Gomez in a statement. “I was honored to wear the beautiful dress he created. I spent the last couple of months working closely with Stuart and Coach and I was happy to finally share what we’ve been up to with everyone.”

While there certainly was an old school glamor to the star, perhaps timeless is a better word, there was also something distinctly '90s about the ensemble. Bright pink eye shadow and a simple choker tied everything together.
