Shock and Awe: The Rundown on Emmy Noms
Who made the list? Who didn’t? Here’s V’s rundown
Where is Reese Witherspoon?! Yas, Zendaya! What in the Emmy just happened?
The Emmy Awards released nominations for their 72nd year of celebration Tuesday. Among those nominated comes a boatload of shock and awe. Who made the list? Who didn’t? Here’s V’s rundown.
SHOCK
Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t get any worse, Reese Witherspoon was snubbed from this year’s Emmy nominations. Starring in three hit shows “Big Little Lies,” “Little Fires Everywhere” and “The Morning Show” Witherspoon gets no love from television’s biggest night.
AWE
Alas, there is light at the end of the tunnel. “Watchmen” — starring the powerfully marvelous Regina King — reeled in a total of 26 nominations. This makes the HBO produced series the most nominated show this year.
SHOCK
Speaking of streaming services, things didn’t work out too well for Apple. With the launch of Apple TV Plus last year, the tech company made it clear they wanted to produce award-winning content. Well, Apple’s million-dollar infused “The Morning Show” did not even land an outstanding drama series nod. And its shows “See” and “For All Mankind” received no Emmy nominations.
AWE
Zendaya! She’s here to save us once again with her first-ever Emmy nomination for “Euphoria”. The hit HBO show received six nominations including outstanding for lead actress, original music and lyrics.
SHOCK
It’s time for some good shock. The Emmys inducted a bunch of new talent into its nomination pool this year: Mamoudou Athie for “Oh Jerome, No (Cake),” Annie Murphy for “Schitt’s Creek,” Yvonne Orji for “Insecure” and Shira Haas for “Unorthodox.”
AWE
Jennifer Aniston received her first Emmy nomination in eleven years for her leading role in Apple TV Plus’ “The Morning Show.” Previously known for her comedy leading streak for “Friends”, this nomination breaks Aniston’s typical alignment to comedy shows.
The 72nd Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will broadcast Sunday, September 20 8:00-11:00 p.m. EDT/5:00-8:00 p.m. PDT on ABC. Click here to see the full list of nominees.
