Suki Waterhouse is on a roll this year. After succeeding in establishing her accessories line, Pop & Suki, covering April’s Vanity Fair, and starring as the lead in Starz’s The White Princess, the British It Girl, model, and actress has released her first music video. In “Brutally,” Waterhouse reflects on the end of a relationship, contemplating love lost. Waterhouse released the track in November, and the video on May 15, with summer love just on the horizon.

The short film alternates between camcorder close-ups of Suki’s face and clips of old movies, juxtaposing reality with story-book, scripted love. On the shots of herself, Waterhouse told R29"I was filming in moments I was finding hard to sit and be alone with my thoughts and memories, when I look back at the footage I feel an understanding of who I used to be...even if it's very recent footage. It's a record of the tapestry of my life." Rather than forcing the breakup song to be happy or sad, the burgeoning musician allows the narrative to record life as it is.

"Sometimes love can be aggressive and abusive. These images of hard passionate kisses side-by-side with brutal behaviors is what, more often than not, a lot of people experience.” The song lives up to its title, holding a mirror up to conditioned love to show us its inherent brutality.
