This year’s dual-weekend lineup for Coachella, a curated selection of artists from the realms of pop, country, soul, rock, and beyond kicked off the start of festival season on the right note. With appearances from Lana del Rey, No Doubt, Peso Pluma, Tyler the Creator, Blur, and many more, music’s biggest MVP’s hit the stage in serious style—including Tinashe, as the songstress lit up the Movaje stage in a custom Off-White look to belt out some of her biggest tracks, and V got a look at her show ready process.

“The day starts with soundcheck! We get 30 minutes to set our positions on stage, test out the moving stage pieces, and lock in my in-ear monitor mix and the mix “in the house”. Our first time stepping on the stage really put into perspective how huge this stage is!”

“After soundcheck, I immediately called a team meeting with all of the dancers to talk through what we would do IF issues were to arise. We came up with a plan B and a plan C, so in the event that the moving set pieces weren’t moving correctly we could re-stage a piece while the show was already happening.”

“After going back to the house I’m staying in to change, eat, and put on my makeup, we headed to the festival. YES, everyone, even the artists, have to go through a security check and stand in a line.”

“After getting dressed for stage, we’re off to the Mojave Tent!!”

“Driving to stage in the golf cart with my du-rag blowing in the breeze made me feel like it was my wedding day.”

“Before the show starts, the dancers and I do some last-minute choreography practice.”

“Finding the perfect stage look is not easy. We are dancing extremely hard on stage every night, so we need comfortable shoes, clothes that we can move in, fabrics that won’t tear or deteriorate with moisture, and of course something that feels unique. I always push for outfits that feel more like me than a leotard or a bodysuit. Off-White made me this custom suit that felt oversized and comfortable but still showed a little skin! Unfortunately, even after several fittings and rehearsals, during the show two of the dancers ripped their pants.”

“Definitely had to make some time for selfies and videos before we hit the stage and start to sweat!”

“Pre-show pep talk with the dancers and the choreographer Shay Latukolan. I was so excited!”

“Miraculously, minutes before my performance, my brother showed up backstage with some chicken wings… so you know I had to have a pre-show chicken wing. Shoutout to my lip stain because that lip did not move, honey.”

“I was so happy my parents, brothers, best friend, cousin, and manager all got to be there with me for this special night. They looked so cute in their matching merch jerseys.”

“After-show celebrations! The set was perfect! We had some technical difficulties with the screens, but I loved every minute of it! Cant wait to come back next weekend and do it all again.”
