Alexander Fury once said that the identifier of the 2000s thus far is skinniness. “Skinny blazer, skinny jeans, skinny latte. Even the experimentation with volume has been about creating the illusion of skinniness elsewhere…I wonder if this decade will be a reaction against that?”

Drainpipe trousers and slimming graphic color blocking have been ubiquitous for years, consistently worn by both the famous and the unknown. People have become so afraid of appearing bulky that they have developed anxiety over voluminous clothing. But just like how sipping on green juice doesn’t a fit person make, neither does slim clothing always flatter. In fact, the swish of generous fabric around the body can be intriguingly seductive and a little room to breath can be incredibly generous to the figure.

Designers are facing our fears this season—even those known for slim silhouettes. By giving us covetable wide-legged or flared trousers and refreshing shapes in coats and dresses, they have us clamoring for volume once more. Check it out in the slideshow above.
