Panos adopted me in 2007 from the hell of being without a stylist and being out of the game. No one wanted to dress me and I was lost. I was stylist-less and very, very, very, very picky. I was immediately moved by his anachronistic and brilliant imagery: his diabolical Micky Mouse ears, his Kate Moss in a beard, and his Gisele Bundchen in a pregnant suit. There was no doubt in my mind that this was the most influential stylist working today, period, and for the last decade I’ve watched him get ripped off time and again. It’ s almost funny. He’ s a true genius. In 2007 or 2008, he introduced me to a very nascent Riccardo Tisci and for a while I became the muse of the house. We clicked instantly, the one problem being that I had gotten fat, so our first few shoots were Panos artfully draping things around my girth, but I swore I would lose the weight which I gained from using Sting and Trudie Styler’s macrobiotic chef. (I was thinking, No way could I gain weight with macro! Boy I love macro, but I was so wrong.) Panos always made me look great.

When we did the V shoot with Mario Testino I just trusted him. He made me a cape of carnations sewn together. Whenever I work with Panos, I put myself entirely into his hands. At the British Fashion Awards, he offered me a Comme des Garcons dress and I was fussy and wore a vintage Galliano. As always, he was right: I should have worn the Comme. No one is more important in fashion today than Panos Yiapanis and everyone inside of fashion knows this is true. He influences menswear massively and taught me a lot about its effect on womenswear. I began wearing Hedi’s Dior Homme because of Panos, and broke some of my bad designer habits and started taking more chances. Panos is very selective: he doesn’t like celebrities much, and likewise I don’ t like run of the mill stylists much! He’ s editorial and not red carpet. On Empire I needed a Marchesa gown and it was the first season, so no one knew it was going to be a hit, but he made absolutely sure that I got that gown.

Panos is so punk rock. He’ s the real deal and I hope to God he does a line soon with a high-end investor because no one in fashion would not wear it. He’ s generous, a genius, tormented, and brilliant. His mind travels at speeds beyond other stylists and I hate calling him that because he transcends what a stylist is. I always think of Panos and me ending up with Anya in a house with Beast, his Rottweiler, living out our old age together amongst his archives. He has vision and is touched by God or Buddha or whatever light of inspiration there is in this world. I know sometimes he doesn’t love the fashion world bitchiness but the world of fashion would be lost without his leadership. I’m proud to call him hubby and my best friend.
