Who are your musical icons?

Aaliyah is definitely a huge one for me; her sound paved the way for most young girls in R&B today. Pharrell, he’s always been a risk-taker. I’m obsessed with Minnie Riperton’s voice, it’s like a smooth river of ice cold strawberry milk.

What was the first album you purchased?

In the Zone by Britney Spears. I remember because I was so excited...and then my cousin stole it. I was hysterically crying, so my dad bought me a new one.

Which artists are you listening to right now?

I recently discovered Afrobeats music by listening to OVO Sound Radio—I heard one song and fell in love with the whole genre. It reminded me of reggae or dancehall. I’m Jamaican, so it wasn’t that hard or it to catch my attention. I’ve also been taking it back a little, listening to some old Frank Ocean and Dangerously in Love by Beyoncé.

How would you describe your style?

I have three styles. One is my Hypebeast tomboy look, which is pretty much my everyday look. Then when I have to go to events or parties or performances, I completely transform. I’ve given some thought about it with my stylist and we decided to call it “hood chic,” inspired by ’90s Foxy Brown, Lil’ Kim, and Naomi Campbell. I call my last look the “I’m a pretty princess” look, and that’s pretty self-explanatory.

Do you ever get nervous before going on stage?

I get nervous every single time. It doesn’t matter if there’re five people or five thousand. What I have noticed is that the more people there are, the less nervous I am. It’s way harder to impress five people.

The best thing about being a performer is…

Being able to reach and connect with so many people, people you don’t even know. We all feel like we’re alone, but as artists, we get to see firsthand from our fans that we’re not. Hearing them scream the words to your songs is the most amazing feeling.
