During the Manchester International Film Festival, FKA twigs was a resident performer, choreographing and rehearsing new dance pieces every day. From those performances, twigs has created a mesmerizing, enigmatic short film titled Soundtrack 7. Described as an “abstract autobiographical piece,” the work incorporates several of the artist’s own songs including her latest track, “Good to Love," which is the backing track of the excerpt below.

The set and dancers are minimally dressed, matching the raw emotions and intimacy throughout the film. “I want to present all of the dancers for the physical artists that they are in an athletic way,” says twigs, adding, “rather than what would be pleasing with a commercial aesthetic.. flesh, sweat, feeling, muscle, and live movement, no air brushing, no frills.”

Twigs is hardly new to the dance world; she actually started in the art before moving into music. Most, if not all, of her music videos and shows have dance elements, but this is the most true-to-form visual performance from the singer yet.

Soundtrack 7 debuts in full tonight on BBC4.
